retiarius net reteThe retiarius was the gladiator who was modelled after a fisherman. He was armed with a net, a trident and a dagger, and armoured only with a galerus and a manica. The retiarius fought the heavily armoured secutor. The net was employed to trap the opponent, after which the retiarius would strike with his trident. This net is hand woven from 4 mm thick jute rope. It has meshes of 4. 5 x 4. 5 cm and measures 1. 3 square metres. It weighs 1. 4 kg. This
