Introduction to Knife-makingThis intensive weekend course is an opportunity to enter the world of knife making by crafting your own high carbon steel chef's knife under the guidance of a master craftsman. Over the course of one weekend, you will forge and use stock removal techniques to craft the carbon steel blade. Saturday starts with an introduction to the process of knife making, looking at knife ergonomics, design and profiling. Students will design their knife and begin

Hand forging techniques including: tapering

students will gain insight into working with carbon steels and the considerations required to forge and heat-treat these steel blades

Appropriate for

respiratory and hand protection (but feel free to bring your own if you prefer)

Students will reveal and develop the pattern using an acid etch and finish up by forging the completed billet to size

Screen printed one side cotton tote

design and profiling

learn some unique skills and use some amazing machinery within the heritage workshop of Eveleigh Works

Students will design their knife and begin work on shaping the blade on the anvil
