El Rey Theatre

El Rey TheatreI drew the El Rey Theatre because of its connection to La La Land (one of my all time favourite films, who would have thought?). Ive always loved the facade of this building, and even though Ive only seen it in person once, its stuck with me over the years. Its a little more under the radar than some of my other theatre prints, but I like to put it on peoples radar whenever possible, and I hope this print does exactly that.

If you visit

and I remember being completely mesmerised by the lighting

long before I ever had the chance to visit in person

I’d deliberately change my route so I could walk past the iconic theatre

I went here before heading to a live taping of Jimmy Kimmel on Hollywood Boulevard

Both equally deserving of their pop culture fame

as well as having my artwork hanging above one of the tables inside

You look at a house like that and think “That’s what I’m working towards”

and Norm’s absolutely lived up to the hype

and experiencing his craftsmanship in person felt incredibly special

I’ll keep drawing them as a way of preserving them in my own little way

I finally made it there for a jazz night
