FE Thomas Browntone Special Bamboo Rod 8' 3/2For sale here is a very scarce 8 foot F. E. Thomas Browntone Special bamboo rod with three sections and two tips. Serial no. 99 with a square. Made in 1939 for legendary fly tyer and taxidermist from Maine, Herb Welch. The rod is in excellent original condition with a few exceptions. The stripping guide wraps have become brittle and torn so a re wrap is needed. Also, one of the tip sections is shorter by 3 8" (not sure if it was made that way or not).

The seat is an almost exact match to the reel seats used on the original pre-fire Hunt rods

The cigar grip is 5 7/8" in length with only the slightest handling marks

Handsome bakelite checks

the length makes for excellent mending and roll casts

It has seen a tiny bit of use

deep black Type III anodized finish with matte reliefs

The rod features a dark straw-colored varnish finish with transparent honey wraps and chestnut wraps

and capable of very accurate casts

While the oxidation to the ferrules is very good that of the cap and ring is worn in places
