It has many mosques decorated with blue and white tiles and remains the centre of ceramics production in Pakistan. The artisans are known as Kashigar, which comes from a Persian word meaning the art of painting on ceramics. Kashan was a production centre for Persian ceramics in the Middle Ages and artisans moved from there to the Indian subcontinent
