Grey GhostIn the chill embrace of a late winter afternoon, Amherst Island lay spread beneath an iron gray sky. The fields, gilded by whispers of frost, stretched wide and untamed, their barren expanses punctuated only by the skeletal silhouettes of naked trees and tangles of underbrush. The local mischief makers had bestowed upon him the nickname "The Grey Ghost," a testament not only to his striking pale plumage but to the elusive grace with which he hunted.

The joy experienced is similar to coming upon a Snowy Owl for the first time

Usually it's other raptors such as Short-eared Owls and Ravens they hide from

The Owl continued to hunt right up to the start of totality

As the moon began to retreat and the sun's brilliance returned

painting the sky in shades of deep purple

casting elongated shadows across the snow-covered fields

Northern Harrier's will often move locations once prey is captured

Amherst Island lay spread beneath an iron-gray sky

Ocean whispers hush

resting in the grass until a glimmer of sun appeared

echoed with the stories of survival
