The Greco company started building guitars in Japan in 1960, hitting their high water mark for quality between roughly 1971 to 1982. Japanese concert tours in the 1960s by bands like the Beatles and Led Zeppelin created a ravenous demand for affordable Fender and Gibson styled guitars amongst the young Japanese fans. Greco stepped up to fill that demand, and made more high quality "lawsuit" copies of the major guitar brands' designs
