17th Century Portrait Of A Young Man With A BookA small 17th century Italian portrait of a young man carrying a book and a walking stick. Its beautifully aged and probably a fragment of a larger work thats been saved at some point. Hes wearing a grey robe which is tied around the waist and another heavier brown garment over his shoulder. Its possible that he could be a religious figure carrying the bible, perhaps a monk. We purchased the painting from a private seller in Italy who in turn acquired

his masterpiece

During this time he also was working as a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts

Her style fits perfectly alongside other portraits from the 1840s

Both portraits have a few small scratches here and there but nothing major

19” x 15” / 48cm x 38cm Year of creation 1957

Several small areas of paint loss and scuffing around the edges

It’s been painted in an impressionistic style with quick daubs of oil paint cleverly suggesting the finer details
